Everything you need to know before beginning your skin journey.
Do I need a consultation before treatment?
For new clients, consultation is an important part of the DH Medical approach and may be required before certain treatments.
It allows us to understand your skin, discuss your concerns, review relevant treatment and skincare history and establish whether the treatment you are considering is appropriate.
Where are consultations held?
DH Medical consultations are available from our Liverpool base at:
40 Rodney Street Liverpool L1 9AA
I don’t know which treatment I need. What should I book?
You do not need to know.
In many cases, knowing what you would like to improve is more useful than arriving with a particular treatment in mind.
Your practitioner can assess your skin and explain the options most appropriate for your concern.
What skin concerns can DH Medical help with?
Our professional skin treatments may be appropriate for concerns including breakouts, congestion, pigmentation, post-blemish marks, uneven texture, scarring, dehydration, dryness, dullness, fine lines, enlarged-looking pores and loss of firmness.
Suitability varies between clients and is assessed individually.
What treatments do you offer?
Our core professional treatment offering includes:
- Advanced facials
- Chemical peels
- Microneedling
- LED light therapy
- Dermaplaning
- Combination skin programmes
Your practitioner will recommend treatment according to your individual skin.
Are your therapists qualified?
DH Medical is being built around experienced, professionally qualified practitioners.
Our practitioner network includes highly experienced therapists, including professionals involved in training and education within the beauty and skin sector.
Individual treatment suitability and practitioner requirements are considered when appointments are arranged.
Do you offer medical aesthetic treatments?
DH Medical’s core skin offering is therapist-led.
Where a client’s requirements extend beyond the appropriate scope of therapist-led cosmetic skin treatment, access to suitably qualified medical professionals may form part of the wider professional pathway.
Any medical treatment would be subject to the appropriate consultation and clinical assessment.
Will I be pressured into buying a course?
No.
A course may be recommended where a skin concern is more likely to respond to progressive treatment, but recommendations should always have a clear reason behind them.
We do not believe in prescribing a long programme simply for the sake of it.
Will I need professional skincare at home?
Not necessarily.
However, homecare can have a significant influence on treatment results.
Your practitioner may recommend changes where your existing routine is contributing to a concern or where particular products could support your treatment programme.
Our philosophy is to recommend what is useful rather than simply recommending more.
Should I bring my skincare products with me?
You do not need to physically bring everything unless asked to do so, but it can be useful to know what you currently use.
Photographs of your products or a list on your phone can help your practitioner understand your existing routine.
Can I have treatment on the same day as my consultation?
This depends on the treatment, your skin and appointment availability.
Certain treatments may be suitable following assessment, while others require preparation, patch testing or a separate appointment.
Will my skin peel after a chemical peel?
Not necessarily.
Professional chemical peels vary considerably.
Some cause little or no visible peeling while others may create dryness or flaking.
Your practitioner will explain what to expect from the treatment recommended.
Is microneedling painful?
Sensation varies between clients and depends partly on treatment intensity.
Microneedling is commonly described as feeling prickly, warm or scratchy rather than being completely sensation-free.
How much downtime should I expect?
Downtime depends on the treatment.
Advanced facials and LED generally require very little interruption to normal life.
More advanced treatments such as certain peels or microneedling may cause temporary redness, sensitivity, dryness or flaking.
This will be discussed before treatment.
How quickly will I see results?
This depends on what is being treated.
Hydration and radiance may improve quickly.
Concerns such as pigmentation, acne scarring, deeper texture and collagen-related ageing generally require more time.
We prefer to give realistic expectations rather than promise instant transformation.
How many treatments will I need?
There is no universal answer.
Some clients require one treatment.
Others benefit from a structured course.
Your practitioner will recommend frequency based on the concern and review progress as treatment continues.
Can sensitive skin be treated?
Often, yes.
However, sensitive or reactive skin may require a gentler approach.
Sometimes the first stage is restoring hydration and supporting the skin barrier rather than immediately performing an advanced procedure.
Can you treat active acne?
Certain professional treatments can support acne-prone skin, congestion and post-blemish concerns.
However, severe, painful, cystic or medically significant acne may require appropriate medical assessment.
Can you completely remove acne scars?
No responsible skin professional should guarantee complete scar removal.
Professional treatment can improve the visible appearance of certain types of scarring and texture, but the degree of improvement varies.
Can you remove pigmentation permanently?
Pigmentation can often be improved, but certain forms may recur.
Sun exposure, hormones and inflammation can all influence pigment production.
Maintenance and daily sun protection are therefore particularly important.
Can pores be closed?
No.
Pores are a normal anatomical part of the skin.
Professional treatment can improve congestion and surrounding skin texture, which may make pores appear less noticeable, but pores cannot be permanently closed.
Do I need to wear SPF?
Daily sun protection is strongly encouraged as part of good skin care and becomes particularly important when undergoing professional resurfacing or pigmentation treatment.
What if you think treatment isn’t suitable for me?
We will tell you.
Professional treatment includes knowing when not to perform a procedure.
If something is unsuitable or another type of assessment would be more appropriate, your practitioner will explain that.
What should I do before my appointment?
Instructions vary by treatment.
For some appointments, you may be advised to temporarily discontinue certain active skincare ingredients or avoid other procedures beforehand.
Any specific preparation will be communicated to you.
Can men book treatments?
Absolutely.
DH Medical treatments are based on skin concerns, not gender.
What age do I need to be?
Age requirements can vary according to the treatment and circumstances.
Certain treatments are restricted to adults, and younger clients may require parental or guardian involvement as appropriate.
Can I book simply for skin maintenance?
Yes.
You do not need to have a major skin concern to benefit from professional treatment.
Many clients choose regular treatment simply to support hydration, clarity, texture and overall skin health.
What happens after my treatment?
Your practitioner will provide relevant aftercare guidance.
This may include keeping the skin hydrated, temporarily avoiding active ingredients, avoiding certain activities and using daily SPF.
