What you can expect from DH Medical.
Professional skin care is built on more than the treatment itself.
At DH Medical, we believe every client should understand what is being recommended, feel comfortable asking questions and receive care that is appropriate to their individual circumstances.
Our Patient Care Charter sets out the principles we expect to sit behind every DH Medical interaction.
It is a simple extension of The DH Standard.
PROFESSIONAL CARE
Every client should be treated professionally, respectfully and with consideration.
Our practitioners are expected to work within the scope of their qualifications, training and professional competence.
Where a concern requires a different level of expertise, this should be recognised and communicated appropriately.
Good professional care includes knowing both what to treat and what not to treat.
CONSULTATION FIRST
Understanding comes before treatment.
Consultation forms an important part of the DH Medical model.
Before appropriate professional treatment begins, we may need to understand:
- Your primary skin concern
- Your treatment history
- Your current skincare
- Previous reactions or sensitivities
- Relevant medication
- Relevant health information
- Previous procedures
- Your expectations
- Your preferred level of downtime
This information helps practitioners make more appropriate treatment decisions.
INFORMED DECISIONS
You should understand what is being recommended.
Before proceeding with treatment, you should have the opportunity to understand:
- What the treatment involves
- Why it is being recommended
- The intended benefits
- Relevant limitations
- Likely downtime
- Aftercare requirements
- Reasonable expectations
- Any relevant alternatives
We want clients to feel informed rather than simply instructed.
NO PRESSURE TO PROCEED
Attending a consultation does not create an obligation to have treatment.
You should have the opportunity to consider the information provided and decide whether you wish to proceed.
Where appropriate, you may also be advised that no treatment is currently required.
Our role is to make a professional recommendation.
The decision to proceed remains yours.
APPROPRIATE TREATMENT
More treatment is not automatically better treatment.
DH Medical practitioners are expected to recommend treatment according to the condition of the skin and the concern being addressed.
The strongest procedure available is not necessarily the most suitable.
Where a gentler or more progressive approach is appropriate, that should take priority over creating unnecessary intensity or downtime.
REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
Professional skin treatment can create meaningful improvement, but results vary between individuals.
Skin condition, lifestyle, age, treatment history, genetics and homecare can all influence how the skin responds.
We will aim to communicate reasonable expectations and avoid promising results that cannot responsibly be guaranteed.
PRIVACY & DISCRETION
Your consultations and treatment discussions should be handled with appropriate discretion.
Information provided for the purpose of consultation, treatment or appointment management should be treated confidentially and handled in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.
DH Medical is based within Liverpool’s Rodney Street professional district, and we want the client experience to reflect the discretion expected from that setting.
RESPECT
Every client should be treated with dignity and respect.
Professional care should be delivered without inappropriate judgement or discrimination.
Equally, our practitioners and team members are entitled to work within a respectful environment.
Abusive, threatening or inappropriate behaviour towards staff or practitioners will not be accepted.
YOUR QUESTIONS ARE WELCOME
We encourage clients to ask questions.
If something about your treatment plan is unclear, we would rather explain it properly than have you proceed without understanding.
Questions may relate to:
- Treatment suitability
- Expected results
- Preparation
- Aftercare
- Downtime
- Homecare
- Treatment frequency
- Alternative approaches
Clear communication is part of professional treatment.
YOUR INFORMATION MATTERS
The accuracy of information provided during consultation can affect treatment safety and suitability.
Clients should make practitioners aware of relevant changes including:
- New medication
- Pregnancy
- Allergies
- Medical diagnoses
- Recent procedures
- New skin conditions
- Adverse reactions
- Changes to general health that may affect treatment
Where circumstances change, treatment may need to be adapted or postponed.
AFTERCARE
Where aftercare is required, clear guidance should be provided.
Following professional aftercare advice is an important part of supporting the skin following treatment.
If you experience an unexpected reaction or have concerns following an appointment, we encourage you to contact DH Medical promptly.
CONTINUITY OF CARE
Where treatment forms part of a longer programme, progress should be reviewed.
The original plan does not need to remain unchanged if the skin responds differently than expected.
Treatment can be adapted according to progress, tolerance and changing priorities.
This principle of assess, treat and review sits at the heart of The DH Standard.
WHEN WE MAY NOT TREAT
There may be circumstances where a practitioner believes treatment should not proceed.
This can include:
- Active infection
- Significant irritation
- Certain medications
- Relevant medical contraindications
- Recent procedures
- Compromised skin barrier
- Treatment falling outside the practitioner’s professional scope
Where appropriate, another form of professional or medical assessment may be recommended.
Declining or postponing unsuitable treatment is part of responsible care.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Professional skin care works best as a partnership.
We ask clients to:
- Provide accurate information
- Follow relevant preparation instructions
- Follow aftercare guidance
- Attend appointments at the agreed time
- Raise concerns promptly
- Treat practitioners and staff respectfully
- Ask questions when something is unclear
THE DH STANDARD
Our Patient Care Charter is designed around a straightforward expectation:
professional assessment, appropriate treatment, clear communication and respectful care.
From our Liverpool base on Rodney Street, these principles sit behind the experience we are building at DH Medical.
Understand the skin first.
